Project Overview
I work with clients from all over the UK, and one of my favorite projects was designing a website for Kirsty Airey, a talented photographer based in Kent. Kirsty needed a professional site to showcase both her wedding photography and studio photography services.
She asked me to design the website so that each service area—wedding photography and studio photography—had its own unique feel, while maintaining consistent branding across both. The reason behind this was simple: the two services are very different, and people searching for wedding photography are not likely to be interested in studio photography at that moment, and vice versa. My challenge was to create a site that would cater to both audiences without confusing them, while keeping everything under Kirsty’s brand.
How I Approached the Project
Website Architecture Creating a website that would serve both wedding and studio photography meant I had to think carefully about the site architecture. It was important that users and search engines like Google could easily navigate the site and understand its structure. I couldn’t just have a simple menu listing all the services together. Instead, I needed to develop a clear layout that would distinguish the two service areas while keeping them connected under Kirsty’s brand. I also made sure the site was flexible enough to expand if Kirsty wanted to add more services in the future.
Keyword Research Before building the site, I knew keyword research was crucial for the SEO strategy. I used tools like Keyword Planner to identify which search terms people were using most often. For example, I compared terms like “Wedding photographer in Kent” versus “Wedding photography in Kent.” I focused on high-volume keywords but also included some less competitive terms that would still bring value. Sorting through hundreds of keyword options wasn’t easy, but it helped me understand which terms would best serve both SEO and the needs of the users looking for Kirsty’s services.
Building the Service Pages Once I had the architecture and keywords sorted, I focused on designing each service page. I knew I had to include all the essential elements like Key Features, Benefits, Pricing, Testimonials, and Contact Information. The goal was to highlight Kirsty’s photography expertise and use her beautiful images to support both SEO and user engagement. I also made sure to mention the location of the studio and areas Kirsty covered for her wedding photography services to enhance local SEO.
Results
The outcome of the website was fantastic. Kirsty’s site now ranks highly for several competitive keywords in her field. For instance, as of September 5, 2023, she’s ranked first for “Maternity Photography in Kent” and second for “Cake Smash Photography in Kent.” Seeing the results of the SEO strategy I implemented was incredibly rewarding, and it was great to see Kirsty’s business grow through a website that truly reflects her talent and services.
